Kennedy had her first dance class yesterday. She was very excited at the prospect of going. We talked to her about the opportunity to learn so fun things and make new friends. She was very happy to be going.

Last week she and I went to Wal-Mart just to get some inexpensive dance clothes for her to try dance class out. She was thrilled to wear her outfit for the first time and it was so cute on her. When we went into the studio they had many different styles of unitards, leotards and dance wear she could hardly believe her eyes. (almost of it was frilly or sparkely) She picked out some stuff she was interested in and I made a mental note.
After a bit of a wait (we had to go early to fill out paper work) she was ready for class. Luckily Kennedy never meets a stranger so she jumped right in with the other girls and introduced herself. Sadly parents are not allowed in class, but you can see your children through the two way curtain (they just can't see you). The classroom is mirrored and Kennedy got a kick out of seeing herself dance in the mirror. She had a great time trying all the new things in class. It will take a bit of time for her to completely learn the routine, but her instructor assured me she did very well.
Next they had gymnastics. The students in the class, along with Kennedy went upstairs to the gym area. The parents can watch two ways from there you can go in the balcony in the gym or watch via close circuit TV. I chose the TV because Kennedy gets distracted by my presence, but next time I may go the balcony route. In the gymnastic portion they did balance beam, uneven bars, some flips and what looked like some crazy yoga moves. Kennedy came out of the gym pumped. She loved it. Her teacher commented on Kennedy's great strength and balance (the Mulan song one is not enough come to mind when she said this "One alone is not enough...you need both together) She said Kennedy had more strength than her (the teacher) She was very impressed.
After class we bought the needed accessories (I.E. dance shoes-since this was a trial class we waited till after class just in case it was a bust) Kenned was so excited to get the "noisy tap tap" shoes as she called them.
I know Kennedy really enjoyed herself because she didn't want to leave and she talked about it the whole way home. When we got home she talked with Jeremy about it over dinner and asked when she was going back. I am pleased with out decision to go forward with dance and I hope it blossoms into a life long love of physical exercise and movement.
